About AutoVue Client/Server

Meridian supports two versions of the AutoVue viewer on client computers, the AutoVue Desktop versions (AutoVue 2D Professional and optional AutoVue 3D Professional Advanced) and AutoVue Client/Server (supports both 2D and 3D files).

The AutoVue Desktop versions are embedded in Meridian Enterprise and require no special deployment. But if your organization requires a zero footprint deployment for web applications or for 64-bit client support, you should consider deploying AutoVue Client/Server instead. AutoVue Client/Server is a Java applet that displays documents that are rendered by an AutoVue server. The basic architecture of AutoVue Client/Server when integrated with Meridian Enterprise is shown in the following figure.

The Java server and the AutoVue server software can be installed on separate servers if many client computers require the service. This architecture is best suited for the department and enterprise deployment models.

Within the deployment models, the AutoVue Client/Server software may be installed on the following computers depending on the expected viewing workload:

The AutoVue Client/Server software may also be installed on client computers (for desktop clients only) if a dedicated rendering server is unjustified, such as in the departmental or workgroup models. Obviously, this would not be a zero footprint installation and should not be considered by organizations that require it. For installation of all deployment types, see Installing AutoVue Client/Server.

Note    When deployed with Meridian, AutoVue Client/Server currently does not support text search lookup lists, Meridian Asset Management Module tag hotspots, and file conversion in some scenarios. All other functionality, including external references, hybrid documents, watermarks (may not appear identical to the desktop viewer, depending on configuration), thumbnails, full-text search, redlining, and hotspots (created manually in AutoVue only) are supported.

Your decision as to which AutoVue version to install and in which deployment configuration can be guided using the following figure.
